Cooley Kickhams Camogie History
In 1991 an interest to restart camogie in Cooley was ignited by Nicholas Rafferty, Marie Donnelly and Ann Callan by holding a training session in St Patrick’s Club, Lordship with a view to starting up in the peninsula. Interest was poor so a decision was made to try again in Cooley and with a good squad of potential players turning up it moved on from there so by end of February 1991 the club was formed and training started mainly at underage through to U16.
The first title was won by the club in 1995 when the girls took the U16 League by beating the St Kevin’s team from Philipstown.
Also played the same team in U16 Championship final that same year but beaten narrowly by St Kevin’s again
Although competing in several finals from then onwards Cooley achieved no other underage titles as other club were too strong.
The club then progressed to U18, U21 and eventually Senior and took the senior championship titles in 2007 and again in 2012
As players dwindled away it was time to recruit new players at underage level and with Ann Kane taking on a batch of girls from u12 to U14 in 2012 and continuing yearly which left the club in a strong position and entered U12, U14, U16 U18 and senior.
In 2020 the club competitions ceased due to Covid 19 but was back up and running in 2021.
In 2022 a new committee was formed at the annual general meeting took place. Plans were drawn up to prepare for a successful season of Camogie for the club, with all eyes on winning the league and championship titles.
