2018 - Inaugural Parade

The first ever Cooley Peninsula St Patrick’s Day Parade took place in 2018. Organised by Eddie Marmion, a stalwart of Cooley, the parade was a tremendous success. A colourful procession of floats, vintage cars and tractors, lorries and many local groups and organisations took part, along with groups of school children from most of the primary schools in the Peninsula, draped in school colours and proudly carrying their self-made school banners.

The parade commenced at Murphy’s Petrol Station and made its way along the Dundalk to Carlingford Road finishing at Fr McEvoy Park, the Cooley Kickhams Complex. There was light entertainment afterwards, upstairs in the function room and a disco was held for the children, in the sport’s hall.

2020 & 2021

In 2019 our second parade took place, which was an even bigger and better parade that the first one.  Hopes of making the parade an annual tradition were dashed, when Covid struck and the 2020 parade had to be cancelled, less than two weeks before it was due to take place.

In 2021 covid restrictions resulted in making the decision to postpone the parade for another year.

2022 The Parade Returns

2022 saw most restrictions being lifted and the parade could once again bring the people of Cooley and our neighbours and friends, from far and wide, back onto the streets to celebrate Ireland’s National Saint.  The 2022 parade was greatly attended, with many families being heard to say it was their child’s first-ever parade to attend. Little faces & many older faces lit up with delight at the sight and sound of the now renowned, Cooley Peninsula St Patrick’s Day Parade.
